True or false- ‘history written by winners’
‘History is written by the winners’ is quite controversial term on whether it is true or false. At the time of war, winning was something that was obviously quite important, something that gave certain countries more dominance over others. But I think this statement is false because I believe that the history of world battles are remembered because of the brave people who stood up to fight for their rights, freedom or land. We don’t celebrate war, we celebrate the people who fought for what we have now, whether they lost or not.
How do you know who wins?
Wars can be won depending on who surrendered or the amount of deaths/fatigues that have occurred on each side or because a country has gained the control over land or certain resources. But wars can go on for many years until it is declared won or over
.
Rules of Engagement: define rules of war, do they exist? Why?
Rules in war are used but they aren’t law, they are not rules you must follow by or punished. I guess they exist to have a ‘fair’ war. One obvious war rule is that if you kill someone in war you don’t get charged with murder. Also if you surrender don’t get shot but you can get taken as prisoner which could lead to torture in prison camps. In japan, surrendering is un-honourable so they will either fight to the death or kill themselves in order to not get captured.
